RIU Hotels & Resorts continues its responsible purchasing strategy with the acquisition of "¡Tierra!" capsules and Lavazza coffee beans, developed in collaboration with Rainforest Alliance, the NGO responsible for the Rainforest Alliance Certified™ seal to show that the product is grown sustainably.
RIU Hotels will offer ¡Tierra! Simple and ¡Tierra! Doble capsules, as well as ¡Tierra! Brasil Verde coffee beans at its seven hotels in Spain in the Riu Palace category and at its Riu La Mola resort in Formentera.
Guests will be able to enjoy 100% Arabica coffee, a blend of premium coffees from Honduras, Peru and Colombia. And, each capsule contains eight grams of coffee, which will allow guests to savour an espresso worthy of an authentic professional barista.

This coffee selected by Riu Hotels is part of a Lavazza corporate social responsibility project to ensure product excellence and better living conditions for various coffee-growing communities that produce premium coffee by equipping them with modern equipment for growing and selling coffee using ecological methods. A collaboration that demonstrates the strong commitment of Lavazza and RIU to sustainable tourism and which is based on three core principles: premium product quality, support and care for small communities and respect for the planet.
With the aim of supporting sustainable development in the tourism industry, in late 2017 RIU announced the introduction of coffee and teas with the Rainforest Alliance Certified™ seal at its hotels in Europe, Africa and Asia. Thanks to this action, the guests at these 48 hotels this year will consume a total of 120 tonnes of coffee from Rainforest Alliance-certified farms. The ecological coffees and teas are already available at the hotels in the Canary Islands, Cape Verde, Portugal, Andalusia, Balearic Islands, Mauritius and Sri Lanka. In the future, RIU hopes to continue introducing this and other sustainable products at all its hotels worldwide.
