A unique way to experience New Zealand’s breath-taking landscapes has recently opened high above Port Levy on Banks Peninsula, an hour from Christchurch.

Set tucked into the tussock covered hillside, with beautiful views of the historic Port Levy bay, the surrounding hills and magnificent rocky outcrops, guests at the Pōhue PurePod glass eco-cabin feel like they are floating in the landscape – even the floor and ceiling are made of glass.

PurePods chief executive Stephanie Hassall says bookings and positive visitor feedback from the company’s four established sites (in Little River, Waipara & inland Kaikoura) provided the impetus for the fifth PurePod location.
We are delighted to add the Pōhue PurePod to our existing network of PurePods in the Canterbury region.

The views from this location are spectacular, whether it’s a perfect blue sky day, or you are watching the mist roll in from the bay. And at night when the stars are out in force it is truly magical” she said.
Ms Hassall says the concept, described as a luxury hotel suite in a glass box, or a “view with a room”, has a great appeal.

Guests love the PurePod concept, which reconnects them with nature while they stay safe, warm and dry. A PurePod gives them five-star luxury while immersing them in the dramatic landscapes and idyllic isolation that makes New Zealand such a prized visitor destination.

This is a high quality way to tap into the growing number of city dwellers who yearn for nature, peace and seclusion. We offer the great outdoors in the utmost comfort.

Like its Little River, Waipara and inland Kaikoura counterparts, the secluded Pōhue PurePod features walls of glass on three sides, affording sweeping views down to the bay below, and the stars above. Like the other locations, privacy is assured at the Pōhue PurePod due to the location tucked away on a privately owned sheep farm, said Ms Hassall.

For star-gazers, the glass roof and lack of light pollution ensure unimpeded views of the Milky Way. A telescope and star map are provided, enabling guests to explore the night sky.

One of the first guests, Aaron Piletz from the United States said: “Everything was thought of, from the information about the farm to the fun games. Oh yeah, and the view, that goes without saying. It was spectacular!

While Saravanan Kathiresan from Malayasia said:”This place is incredible. We had an amazing time and the food was mind blowing. Best way to experience true New Zealand

PurePods are solar-powered, operating fully off the grid. They are deliberately free of a wi-fi connection. Guests can be assured of tranquillity, and a minimal carbon footprint.
The PurePods are furnished with a fully equipped bathroom, kitchen and luxurious queen-sized bed and are designed for a maximum of two people. A night’s stay in a PurePod costs NZD$590, with the option of adding on a dinner & breakfast package made up of local fresh produce for an extra NZD$149.

PurePods Ltd is now actively searching for its next site, which will need a distinct location, dramatic landscapes, all-encompassing views and a compelling story.

Ms Hassall says: “All over New Zealand there are spectacular, secluded spots of amazing beauty, filled with unique plants, birds and animals.

To stay in a PurePod is to totally engage with nature via all five senses.
