Fossey’s footsteps to see mountain gorillas in Rwanda

Every year, the Matka Nordic Travel Fair wows its visitors by presenting new and exciting travel destinations from around the world. This year, the fair will, for the first time, feature Ghana and Rwanda, as well as Ras al-Khaimah in the United Arab Emirates. Matka Nordic Travel Fair 2018 will feature a total of more than 80 countries and nearly 900 exhibitors. The fair will be open to the public from 19 to 21 January 2018.
Located in West Africa, Ghana is known as one of the most welcoming countries on the continent. Ghana is a good example of an urbanising, emerging African country where you can enjoy both local urban culture and stunning places of natural beauty. The country’s tourist friendliness is also boosted by English being its official language. At the fair, the Ghana tourism office will present the country’s tourism offerings including, for example, beach life and shopping opportunities in the capital, Accra, and wildlife safaris in savannahs and rain forests. For those interested in culture, Ghana offers numerous stately castles and buildings, the styles of which have been influenced by European building traditions and some of which are included on the UNESCO world heritage list. The delicious, spicy local food and home-made pito drink attract food tourists.
Following in Dian Fossey’s footsteps to see mountain gorillas in Rwanda
Still fairly unknown to Finns, Rwanda in Central Africa is an interesting, emerging travel destination. At the stand of the Rwandan embassy, visitors can explore this small but densely populated country, dubbed as the country of a thousand hills, which is known particularly for its endangered mountain gorillas. The Volcanoes National Park features not only gorillas but also volcanoes; Lake Kivu offers the best inland beaches on the continent; and the capital, Kigali, lets you explore, for example, local dance culture. The trip can easily be combined with a visit to Rwanda’s neighbouring countries, Tanzania or Uganda, both of which are also featured at the Matka Nordic Travel Fair.

Sunbathing and hiking in Ras al-Khaimah
The Ras al-Khaimah Tourism Development Authority will be at the Matka Nordic Travel Fair to present one of the holiday paradises of the United Arab Emirates, Ras al-Khaimah, colloquially known as RAK. Located some 85 kilometres from the city of Dubai, RAK offers warm weather and glorious hotels for those enjoying beach holidays. The Ras al-Khaimah stand will present, for example, the various Hilton hotels in the emirate. Quieter than Dubai, RAK is a good destination, for example, for families with children. Active holidaymakers can also try, for example, hiking, rock climbing in the mountains, or a desert safari. Another interesting place to visit is the ghost village of Jazirat al-Hamra.
