THOUSANDS OF CITIZENS PROTEST AGAINST “MASS TOURISM” IN THE RAMBLA DE BARCELONA

Following attacks by an anarchist group protesting against tourism, travellers to Spain are on high alert.

Some masked members of Arran ambushed an open top sightseeing bus in Barcelona last week and slashed its tyres. There were also incidents like breaking the windows of five-star hotels and damaging the rented bicycles.  In Palma, Mallorca, protestors let off smoke bombs and ran through restaurants before breaking windows.

The group believes to bring “end of the capitalist system and global injustice”. They believe that mass tourism is adding to the misery of the Catalan countries and also destroying the cities.

The Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy condemned the attacks and described the protesters as “extremists going against common sense” and by Ada Colau, the Mayor of Barcelona.

More protests are planned in San Sebastian in August and authorities fear the violence could be repeated in other areas during the busy summer season.

The tourists should remain vigilant and aware of the local disruptions and should check for the situation before they book their holidays by carrying out online research. They are also advised to follow the guidance of the local police or the UK police in case of any emergency.
