Local and regional airports are needed for the sustenance and support of our vibrant communities. Safe and well maintained airport goes a long way in helping the tourists, businessman and execution of other community services.

It is reported that the Government of Canada has invested more than $785.9 million for 904 projects at around 182 airports across the country, since the launch of the program in 1195.  The funding is supported by the Transport Canada’s Airports Capital Assistance Program (ACAP).

Marc Garneau mentioned that Thompson Airport is the key connecting point for residents and businesses in zone. Most of the communities are approachable only through air for a major part of the year.

The funding will help safe operation for passengers, flight crews and medical evacuation activity contributing at large to the community.

He further added that the Government of Canada has realized the economic and social well-being of smaller communities. Local and regional airports supports travel and tourism, they are also the key points for business, health care and social service.

The investments will lead to improve accessibility to efficient transport options leading to healthier and stronger communities.
