Tourism revenue of Portugal witnessed its strongest growth

This year’s April had Easter festivity, a holiday which was in March last year with somehow predictable increase in visitor number. Nonetheless, its proportion did strike the initial expectations.

As per Banco de Portugal, the tourism revenue reached 1,250 million euros in April as a matter of fact, something that signifies an increase of 38.6%, or 348 million, when its compared to the last year. To cross check another monthly variation, one needs to wind up and go back to June 2004 when it went up above the 30% threshold. In the same month, the European Football Championship was held in Portugal, started to roll, having had an increase of 32.5%.

This data becomes even more clear and relevant if we take a look into the account of the third best variation overall ever since 1997 was the one registered in July 1998, with 28.5%, the year when Portugal welcomed the World’s Fair.

The above data showing Portugal’s tourism revenue also highlight that the evolution registered in April encouraged an immense surge in the first tour of the year of 20.7% which is an increase of almost 600 million euros – April witnessed more than half of that figure. With its increase of 348 million euros, it reached the biggest growth in the last 20 years, exceeding the previous best mark, which was an increase of 186 million euros in September 2014.
