A survey conducted by leading long haul travel company Southall Travel has revealed the recent General Election and forthcoming Brexit have made little impact on British holidaymakers, with almost three quarters (72%) saying they will continue with their holidays regardless of the outcome.
The survey of 3,400 British holidaymakers found just one in 10 are delaying booking their holiday until the new Government is in place and Brexit negotiations are in full swing, whilst just 4% said they would not be taking a holiday this year due to the uncertainty surrounding the recent election and Brexit.
Research also revealed a number of British travellers are concerned about the Brexit negotiations and the impact it may have on the cost of a European holiday. Of those surveyed, more than one in 10 (14%) said they are turning their backs on Europe and are more likely to travel long-haul this year.
Booking data at Southall Travel also shows a slight increase with sales of holidays up 3% compared to the week before the country went to the polls.
Jaymin Borkhatria, Sales Director at Southall Travel comments: “This survey and indeed our booking data confirms that whilst a number of people are delaying booking their holiday, the majority of hard-working British holidaymakers are determined to enjoy their week in the sun and are continuing on as normal.”
