Costa Brava strengthens links with European golf

 Costa Brava
Building on the success of the 2016 IAGTO Golf Trophy in the Costa Brava, a delegation from the popular Spanish region attended this year’s event in the Costa Blanca to meet with golf tour operators from key European markets including the UK, France, Germany and Scandinavia.
The 19-strong group from the Costa Brava Tourist Board accepted an invitation to join 60 golf tour operators and 60 golf tourism suppliers from 19 different countries for the four-day event from May 22-25.

The event presented the region with the valuable opportunity to engage with key golf industry personnel from across the continent at a series of daily networking sessions and Jaume Marin, marketing director for the Costa Brava Tourist Board, believes their attendance will provide a number of future benefits.
Marin said: ”The IAGTO Trophy was a huge success for the Costa Brava when we hosted it last year. It was great to have the chance to meet up with many of the leading tour operators and strengthen the relationships that we have formed over the last few years.
“With so much to offer on and off the course, the Costa Brava is deservedly regarded as one of the hotbeds of European golf, and mid-year events like this are very important in helping us to promote the region as a year-round golf destination.”
Situated 100 kilometres north of Barcelona in a region nestling between the foothills of the Pyrenees and the waters of the Mediterranean, the Costa Brava enjoys average annual temperatures of 16.5C and offers an array of first-class golf experiences in a natural and unspoilt environment.
As well as featuring an outstanding collection of 18 and 36-hole venues from some of the game’s most well-known and accomplished designers – including Spain’s number one golf course, PGA Catalunya – the region also has 10 pitch and putt courses for players of all abilities to enjoy, with each providing contrasting landscapes and different playing experiences.
In addition, the Costa Brava provides the ideal chance to combine a golfing break with the chance to experience many historic, cultural and gastronomic delights.
The region is home to Spain’s highest concentration of Michelin-starred restaurants – with the province of Girona featuring 13 reputed establishments and 18 Michelin stars on its own – while the Emporda area of the Costa Brava is proud to boast more than 2,000 hectares of vineyards.
