Australia has been able to reap in smart rewards of over $100 billion from regional as well as overseas tourism last year, as declared by the latest figures today.

The tourists visiting some of the nation’s most popular tourist destinations have ended up spending about $5.6 billion more than what they had done last year and this marks an all-time record.

Steve Ciobo, the Tourism Minister of Australia said that such a growth in holiday spending implies that it is leading to an increased amount of investment, more jobs and therefore a high level of prosperity for Australians, particularly those in regional Australia where 45% of tourism dollars have been spent.

The tourism numbers in New South Wales have jumped nearly 14% in just a matter of three years.

Having said that, the state continues to be at the bottom of the national pile. The number of travellers to the Northern Territory had increased by an overwhelming 69% and this was followed by Western Australia that rose the number of tourists by nearly 47%.

But, NSW still boasts of the highest number of tourists that was about 29.3 million last year and this was closely followed by WA, Queensland and Victoria.

Over the last three years, every state and territory have witnessed a great double-digit growth in tourist figures and visitor nights. And, the Northern Territory have been an outstanding performer in this regard, as mentioned by Mr. Ciobo.

The growth in domestic tourists around the country was up by 9% to $30.7 billion.

And, the international visitors had spent nearly 16% more, or about $16.7 billion in Australia. The National Visitors Survey that is yet to be released today show portrays that one quarter of all the trips to Australia was aimed at hitting the beach.

On the other hand, 4.4 million domestic overnight trips included the utilization of Uber as a mode of transport.
