Tourism remains an important factor in the worldwide economy


The yearly Economic Impact Report 2016 was propelled by The World Travel & Tourism Council, uncovering tourism offered 7.2 million employments to the worldwide economy and contributed with over USD$ 7.2 trillion in GDP.

Considered to be one of the most important reports not only for the Council, but also for companies, investors and even members of the ministries of tourism, the Economic Impact Report give genuine and grounded financial information on the tourism contribution on a worldwide level and in addition for 184 nations and 24 regions.

This sector has been directly affected by the terrorist attacks in major capitals of the world, recognized worldwide as holiday or business destinations. However, at the macro levels, the results provided by the report give unexpected information: the sector reached a 3.7 per cent higher number than in 2015, contributing with total of 9.8 per cent to the global GDP.

It can be easily observed that regional tourism has been affected by economic fluctuations, political riots, terrorist attacks or migration. However, the need of leaving for a holiday or a city break as well as for a business trip is hardly to be ignored. The collective mentality cannot be easily changed as the global population is getting older and more available to travel and also the middle-class is getting richer.

The countries to reach a high number in the income due to tourism are: Iceland, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, and Uganda. Also, the Economic Impact Reports shows that the hastes growing region with 7.9 per cent was South-east.

More, in the next ten years, tourism is considered to become a powerful tool to contribute to the global economy.
