Kenya becomes second most preferred MICE destination in Africa

With the country managing to attract and host high profile international meetings, Kenya has become the second most preferred conference and business tourism destination in Africa after South Africa.

The Meetings, Incentives, Conferencing and Events market commonly known as MICE is valued at 30 billion dollars with hotels accounting for 60 percent of the total value.

Kenya, which was earlier in the third position in 2011, toppled Egypt, the only East African country among Africa’s top five best performing MICE destinations to gain the number two spot.

The improved position is as a result of the increasing number of international meetings that Kenya has hosted among them the Global Entrepreneurship Summit held in July.

The government is calling on investors to put up more conferencing facilities in key towns to boost the country’s capacity to host international events
