India to draw adventure tourist with caravan tourism


Tourism India is taking to innovative tourism to attract global tourists. Caravan tourism is being introduced to bring more adventure tourists to India. Madhya Pradesh and Kerala have long introduced caravan tourism which is greatly popular with tourists and there are plans of including this project in the national tourism policy.

Joint Secretary, Ministry of Tourism, Suman Billa said that the government is seriously considering introducing caravan tourism after the success seen in Kerala and Madhya Pradesh.

Several infrastructural additions have to be made like camps for power chargers and water facilities. Safety is also an important aspect which will have to be taken care of while promoting caravan tourism.

Special attention will be given to the safety of women and children. The government is coming up with a new National Tourism Policy, after almost 13 years from the existing one formulated in 2002. Therefore the implementations will take some time said official from the ministry.

Cinematic tourism and honeymoon tourism will be given special thrust. The government is bent to focus in seven key areas namely, ‘Swagat’ (welcome), ‘Soochana’ (information), ‘Suvidha’ (facilitation), ‘Suraksha’ (safety), ‘Sahyog’ (cooperation), ‘Samrachana’ (infrastructure development) and ‘Safai’ (cleanliness).

With approval waiting from 20 union ministers the tourism policy will be finalised soon bringing major infrastructural changes and policy formation for the tourism industry.
