Croatia to Host Executive Council of the UNWTO

The Government of the Republic of Croatia has confirmed the Ministry of Tourism has approval to host the 100th Session of the Executive Council of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).
The event will be held in Rovinj, Croatia, from 27 to 29 May 2015.
Rovinj was chosen as the venue for the 100th jubilee session at the Executive Council of the World Tourism Organization’s meeting in Santiago de Compostela, Spain, in June 2014. The meeting was attended by a delegation from the Ministry of Tourism of the Republic of Croatia led by Minister Darko Lorencin. Croatia saw off Egypt and Jamaica who were the other contenders to host the 100th jubilee session.
“It is an immense honour and privilege for Croatia to host the 100th Jubilee session. Being selected as the chosen destination demonstrates recognition of our work with the World Tourism Organisation. We look forward to the opportunity to prove to top-notch tourism professionals and experts from all over the world why this confidence has been placed in Croatia when we host them next May,” said Darko Lorencin, Minister of Tourism.
Minister Lorencin added that the session would also offer the opportunity to present Croatia as a high-end destination for congress tourism.
“We are very happy to count on the support of the Croatian government to host this landmark session of the UNWTO Executive Council next year. Croatia is a leader in tourism development and we look forward to an interesting and informative meeting,” said Taleb Rifai, UNWTO Secretary-General.
The session will assemble around 300 participants representing Ministries of Tourism from around the world. Along with two days of working sessions (28 to 29 May 2015), the rich programme will promote the strong tourism offering available in Croatia and Istria.
