Ει βούλει καλώς ακούειν, μάθε καλώς λέγειν, μαθών δε καλώς λέγειν, πειρώ καλώς πράττειν, και ούτω καρπώση το καλώς ακούειν. (Επίκτητος)

Messe Frankfurt’s Kap Europa congress centre officially opened

Messe Frankfurt opened its new Kap Europa congress centre in the Europaviertel district with an official ceremony.

With some 500 guests in attendance, Wolfgang Marzin, President and Chief Executive Officer of Messe Frankfurt, took the opportunity to emphasise the importance of the congress business for Frankfurt and for the Rhine-Main region as a whole: “Messe Frankfurt sets itself lofty targets in its congress and conference business as well. And over the past 15 years, we have never once failed to reach these targets – even surpassing them on numerous occasions. In this way, we succeeded in bringing about an increase of over 30 percent in the number of congress and conference participants that come to Frankfurt every year. As a congress location, Frankfurt is now mentioned in the same breath as Vienna, Barcelona, Paris and Berlin. We are an internationally significant congress centre.”

Peter Feldmann, Mayor of Frankfurt am Main and Chairman of the Messe Frankfurt Supervisory Board, was full of praise for Kap Europa: “Urban development and architecture have always been a direct expression of a city’s culture while also bearing witness to its political and economic importance at the same time. The new Kap Europa congress centre is an impressive document of Frankfurt’s status as an innovative, successful trade fair and congress centre.”

The congress centre was built at the same time as the neighbouring Skyline Plaza shopping centre, which itself was officially opened the previous August. Messe Frankfurt’s partners in the construction of Kap Europa were CA Immo Deutschland GmbH and ECE Projektmanagement GmbH & Co. KG. The concept was developed jointly by the partners and implemented by architects at ECE.

With Kap Europa, Messe Frankfurt is expanding its facilities for congresses, conferences and other events with up to 2,400 participants. On a total of four event levels, it has a hall for 1,000 people, a divisible hall for 600 people and twelve further conference rooms. While the Congress Centre on the exhibition grounds is ideal for large-scale events requiring additional space, Kap Europa meets the need for a plenary hall and numerous smaller rooms.

Executive Board member Uwe Behm explained the company’s decision to operate Kap Europa as an additional event location: “As our existing facilities are already fully booked, we need to expand in order to meet the demand from our customers in the growing congress and conference business.”

Kap Europa was awarded gold certification by the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) just in time for its official opening. This means that the construction and operation of this congress centre satisfy the very highest sustainability standards – the only building of its kind in the world to do so.

On accepting the certificate from Dr. Christine Lemaitre, Chief Executive Officer of DGNB, Uwe Behm declared: “This congress building will not only have a prominent position in the public sphere but will also play an exemplary role in the fields of ecological and socially responsible construction and operation. From the very beginning, it was Messe Frankfurt’s aim to have a congress centre that would raise the bar worldwide with regard to construction and operational sustainability.”
