Sharjah’s Luxury Cruise Season Opens with the Arrival of MSC Lirica

Sharjah’s new cruise season began on a high note with the arrival of luxury cruise-liner MSC Lirica in the Khorfakkan port on Tuesday, November 26, 2013. 

More than 2000 people are on board MSC Lirica and majority of passengers are European tourists including German, Spanish, Italian and British.

MSC Lirica is set to visit the East Coast every Tuesday at 8 am. Between November 26 and April 1, a total number of 19 calls will be made to the Emirate’s picturesque East Coast. A total number of 43,000 luxury cruise passengers are scheduled to visit the Emirate during the 2013-14 cruise season.

Khalid Jasim Al Midfa, Director General, Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority said that with some of the world’s most popular luxury cruise-liners visiting Sharjah’s East Coast with thousands of international passengers on board, the attention is once again focused on the picturesque region which has in recent months and years seen major strides on the tourism and development front.

The SCTDA Director General urged the tourism and hospitality industry to make the most of international luxury cruise operators’ increasing interest in Sharjah and the region as there is a huge demand for new hotels and other infrastructure along the East Coast.
