Tourism industry lines up Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship ace

Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi) has issued a rallying call to the emirate’s stakeholders to help it tee up the best Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship yet.

Speaking during the inaugural ‘Mega Golf Championship Stakeholder Summit’ at the Abu Dhabi Golf Club - which plays host to the European Tour event, running 16-19th January 2014 - TCA Abu Dhabi outlined a number of strategic initiatives to galvanise the industry, attract more visitors and encourage them to stay longer and do more.

TCA Abu Dhabi is giving free championship tickets to all hotel guests staying in the emirate during the championship with the industry being urged to create compelling ‘stay and watch’ travel packages.

Faisal Al Sheikh, Director – Events Bureau, TCA Abu Dhabi said, “Now it’s about pulling this all together to tee up a mega championship that brings visitors, fills our hotels and attractions and drives initiatives that add value to Abu Dhabi’s tourism industry. We need the help of our partners in encouraging new initiatives and to create a roadmap to maintain the growing success of one of the emirate’s most loved events.”

“I think the Championship has been a strong vehicle to showcase the golf offering. Definitely year on year, rounds are going up on international inbounds and particularly during the week or month of the championship, we do very well. I think that the hotels will really look at packages, they’ve all got their own marketing strategies and using their corporate offices they can put some really good initiatives together,” added Chris White, General Manager of Yas Links, one of the capital’s three leading championship ready facilities.

TCA Abu Dhabi has already launched a series of compelling ‘Play, Stay and Watch’ packages to increase international attendance at next year’s Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship, which it expects to boost by 15% over this year.

Based around three-, five- and seven-night products dubbed ‘Tee For Three’, ‘Five Beats Fore’ and ‘Week at the Tees’, the packages – which include varying options for flights, on-the-ground transfers, accommodation, tee-times at the emirate’s six diverse playing facilities and access to most of Abu Dhabi’s leading leisure and culture-based attractions - are available via TCA Abu Dhabi’s specialist one-stop ‘Golf in Abu Dhabi’ initiative.

International fans attending the Championship can expect to see defending champion, Jamie Donaldson; Rory McIlroy, the world number four; Justin Rose, the reigning US Open champion and world number five; Luke Donald, the world number 13, and Matteo, the world number 30.
