The Italian meetings industry bounces back

Just six months after the dissolution of the National Convention Bureau, a new organism to both represent and develop the Italian meetings & events industry has been signed in L’Aquila (Abruzzo) by the President of Federcongressi&eventi Mr. Mario Buscema, the Regional Minister for Tourism of Tuscany (leading the interregional alliance Mice in Italia) Ms. Cristina Scaletti, the Coordinator of the Italian Regional Ministers for Tourism (and Regional Minister for Tourism of Abruzzo as well) Mr. Mauro Di Dalmazio and the President of the National Tourism Board (ENIT) Mr. Pier Luigi Celli.
Among the attendees also Federcongressi&eventi’s Deputy President Ms. Carlotta Ferrari, representing the members belonging to the category Destination marketing and venues.
Goals and objectives
In force of this agreement, lasting three years and renewable, the Regions involved in the project Mice in Italia (Tuscany, Emilia-Romagna, Puglia, Valle d'Aosta, Veneto, Campania, Sicily, Friuli-Venezia Giulia and the Autonomous Province of Trento), as well as other Regions represented by the Coordination, the National Tourist Board and Federcongressi&eventi, will undertake synergistic initiatives to efficiently and effectively promote and develop the Italian meetings & events industry. In particular, they intend to optimize and qualify joint work to harmonize the promotion and marketing, to present the Mice offer at its best, and to define a coordinated program of activities.
The Protocol commits the Parties to recognize in a Coordination Committee the point of reference for the definition of strategies, joint actions and monitoring in many crucial matters, such as the studies and industry researches, the education, the trade promotion initiatives and the coordinated presence alongside the main international exhibitions.
The composition of the Coordination Committee
The Coordination Committee, chaired by the National Board and based within its offices, consists of:
– one representative of the Board itself;
– six representatives appointed by the Regions and Autonomous Provinces, including a representative of  the Region leading the interregional alliance Mice in Italia (Tuscany) and a representative of the Coordination of the Italian Regional Ministers for Tourism (Abruzzo);
– four representatives appointed by Federcongressi&eventi;
– three representatives appointed by the main Italian trade associations (Confindustria, Confcommercio and Confesercenti).
A statement from Federcongressi&eventi’s President, Mr. Mario Buscema
"This is a very important result for the Italian meetings industry, which finally can count on an effective organism truly able to align our industry up to the standards of the international competitors. I proudly remark that our association is well represented in the Coordination Committee, having four representatives out of fourteen, who will bring in all the added value of their passion and expertise. We have now once again the optimal conditions that may lead to so many projects come true. Federcongressi&eventi, aware of the great responsibility which it holds in Italy, will certainly do its part, together with the partners with whom it is proud to share this new responsibility, so that our industry, so important in the tourism as well as in the national economy, may exploit the utmost of its great potential, expressing constant and updated figures, promoting itself abroad with renewed effectiveness and promoting a quality guaranteed education"
