In 2011 international visitors spent a record-breaking $153.0 billion on U.S. travel and tourism-related goods and services, an increase of 14 percent when compared to 2010. The previous record of $141.4 billion was set back in 2008 before the onset of the global economic slowdown.
Americans
spent more than $110.2 billion traveling abroad last year (up 7%) - resulting
in a $42.8 billion trade surplus for travel and tourism for 2011 - a 35 percent
more favorable balance of trade than 2010 and the largest trade gap in history
for U.S. travel and tourism.
